customer appreciation event: golf outing 2016

Each year, Heart Technologies hosts a customer appreciation event for its top clients. The entertainment for each event alternates yearly between a golf outing and a baseball game. As I continue into my third year with the company, I am now in charge of designing my second golf outing. This year was a very exciting yet challenging experience for me.

On the one hand, 2014 design elements were to be focused around the company's rebranding as a tool to promote the new look of Heart Technologies. This year, I had the freedom to design this event however I chose. However, this was my first real dive into designing for an event I already had designed for. My goal was to highlight what guests had enjoyed two years ago while adding a new flair. In addition, this was my first year planning and running the golf outing, which added a new component for me. As with any challenge, I took it in stride, and the results can be seen below:

what i learned:
WOW. Having done this event before, I thought I had it all figured out. Boy, was I wrong.

The biggest lesson I learned is that you never have it all figured out, at least not completely. This was my third Customer Appreciation Event with Heart and my second golf outing. Yetthere were still new last-minute issues that arose, such as a need for a rain plan, chaos getting equipment to the holes as a result of the rain delay, etc.

It also showed me the importance of understanding that you can only do what you can only do. Problems arise, and that is a part of life. No matter how clear you are or how much you plan, nothing will run 100% as scheduled. In spite of that, you've got to ride the waves, take the curve balls as they come, and make it work.
